Free RSV Vaccines Available for Older Australians
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common respiratory virus that can cause serious illness in older adults, particularly during the winter months.
While many people experience RSV as a mild respiratory infection, older adults are at greater risk of developing severe illness, pneumonia and complications that may require hospitalisation.
Free RSV vaccination under the National Immunisation Program
Eligible patients can now receive the RSV vaccine free of charge through the National Immunisation Program (NIP).
The program is available for:
- Australians aged 75 years and over.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 60 years and over.
Why consider RSV vaccination?
Vaccination can help reduce the risk of:
- Severe RSV infection.
- Hospitalisation.
- Respiratory complications associated with RSV.
RSV vaccination is another important way to protect your health alongside annual influenza vaccination and other recommended immunisations.
